Google got into the MVNO game with Project Fi but it has been tightly controlling the number of people who can access the service. It requires people to request an invite and wait for one to arrive, but for today only Project Fi invites are being rolled out for anyone and everyone in the United States. Google is doing this to celebrate the official release of LG Nexus 5X, one of the two new Nexus smartphones that it recently announced.

Project Fi was initially supported only by Nexus 6 and now it gets two more supported devices in the shape of Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. The Nexus 5X however provides people with a cheaper way to get into Project Fi so it makes sense for Google to run this promotion on the day this handset has been officially released in the United States.

Project Fi plans are quite simple, users pay $20 per month for voice and text with each gigabyte of cellular data being charged at $10. Users are only charged for the data they actually used with Google giving back any unused portion.

Since it’s an MVNO the service works on networks of T-Mobile and Sprint, automatically switching between the two to ensure that the user has the best possible cell coverage at all times. It also relies upon Wi-Fi for calling and data usage.

Those who are interested to try out Project Fi and would like to instantly receive an invite can go here to request one, keep in mind that this offer only stands for today, don’t waste any time in requesting an invite otherwise you’ll have to wait for one later on.
