If you’re in the market for a new mechanical keyboard, you might be interested to learn that Razer has recently announced the BlackWidow Ultimate 2016. According to the company, this is a redesigned keyboard of its predecessor and if you are familiar with its successor, you might be wondering what’s the difference?

For starters it will now feature individual LEDs for every key that can now be controlled individually, which is pretty much the same as the previous models. This ensures that every key will glow with the same intensity, versus stuffing in a couple of LED strips and hoping that is enough. While on the surface it does appear to be similar to the previous model, the company claims to have redesigned it from the ground up.

Every key to be customized through Razer’s Synapse software, so if you want the “WASD” keys to glow a different shade of green to separate itself from the rest, you can go ahead and do that. There are also preset options to create a variety of effects, like Wave, Ripple, Reactive, Starlight, and more.

Razer has also made changes to the smudge-free top cover, combined the audio and microphone ports, added a USB pass-through port, and also reduced the overall size of the keyboard. The keyboard will also feature Razer’s very own Razer Green mechanical switches, which from what we have heard sounds pretty close to Cherry MX Blue switches.

As expected of mechanical keyboards, the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2016 does not come cheap and will be priced at $110, although it is cheaper than the BlackWidow 2014. For more information, hit up Razer’s website for the details.
