samsung-galaxy-curved-patent-4The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ are unique phones. Both devices feature curved displays on both sides of the phone, thus allowing the sides to display additional information separate from the main screen, and also providing menus and new ways of interacting with the device.

However some have criticized this design, claiming that it makes it hard and slippery to hold. Now thanks to a recently discovered patent by Samsung by Galaxyclub.nl (via SamMobile), it seems that the company could be considering moving those curved displays to the top and bottom of the phone instead.

With this new repositioning, it would make the phone easier to hold, although we can imagine that the curved top and bottom displays would also make it a bit harder and awkward to reach with your thumbs and fingers. That being, the patent does list several variations, like one with a more dramatic curve, and one with a sharper and more angular curve.

However given that this is only a patent, there’s no way of knowing if Samsung will ever make it a reality, but what do you guys think? Would this design be more preferable compared to the current design? Or do you think that Samsung nailed it with the side curves?
