Samsung-Pay-03

Samsung Pay went live in the United States late last month, initially it was supported by three of the four major mobile carriers. Verizon decided to hold back and it didn’t really confirm initially when it would flip the switch on Samsung’s payment service. A few days back Verizon released a software update which added support for Samsung Pay to compatible devices, but subscribers had to wait until the app went live in the Play Store to actually use the service. Samsung Pay app has gone live in the Google Play Store today.

It goes without saying that the app was already available through Galaxy Apps, but since it’s not as widely used even on Samsung devices as the Play Store, one can expect that having the app on the number one destination for Android apps will help with the adoption of Samsung’s new payment service.

Samsung Pay is supported by the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5. When paired with a Galaxy device the Gear S2 smartwatch also has support for Samsung Pay.

The service can’t be used without carrier support which is why it was absolutely necessary for Verizon to get onboard before its users could take advantage of all that Samsung Pay to offer, convenience is most certainly its biggest selling point, since the service works almost everywhere in the United States where one can pay by card, all thanks to its support for both NFC and MST.

Samsung Pay app is available as a free download from the Google Play Store.
