Skype is one of the most widely used cross-platform messaging services across the globe, not only for instant messaging, but also for voice and video chats. The team says that the goal with Skype was to get the whole world talking for free and that the goal has remained the same ever since, to break down communication barriers. In that spirit Skype today announced that it’s making a slight change which will enable anyone to jump into a Skype chat over the web.
Skype users can now invite anyone to join a chat by sharing a unique link which they can send over Twitter, Facebook, email, WhatsApp or any other medium. The recipient can easily join the chat as a guest from their computer using Skype for Web.
This works for both one on one and group chats, for instant messaging, voice and video calls. It eliminates the need for the guest to create a Skype account or download the app on their computer, and this means that existing users can chat with anyone they want on Skype even if they’re not in their Skype contact list.
Currently this feature can only be accessed via Skype for Windows and Skype for Web in the United States and the United Kingdom, the team does say that they will be rolling out this feature to the rest of the world in the next couple of weeks as well as add this feature to mobile apps too.
