Google-chromecast-2015-02Ever since the Chromecast has been around, native Spotify support for the gadget has not been available. In fact if you wanted Spotify on your Chromecast, you would have to resort to third-party options. That being said with the launch of the new Chromecast, Spotify users now have something to look forward to.

In an announcement made by Spotify recently in conjunction with the launch of the Chromecast, the company announced that both Spotify’s news and the new Chromecast will play nicely together. This feature will be enabled by default if you were to buy the new device. However if you have no plans of upgrading your Chromecast, fret not.

According to Spotify, a firmware is expected to be released over the next few weeks for existing devices, so it will eventually be able to support Spotify’s music streaming as well. As for the Chromecast Audio, Spotify notes that if you are a Spotify Premium subscriber, you will be able to stream your music via the device as well.

If you’re an avid music listener perhaps this might be a good idea. While the Chromecast can stream music, the fact that it relies on a HDMI connection means your options are limited, unless you have a home theater system setup, versus the Chromecast Audio in which any pair of speakers will do the trick.
