956893-square_enix_logo_largeSquare Enix might be a company many of us are familiar with as they have brought us titles such as Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Hitman, and more. While the company has new titles in the works that have yet to be released, if you’re missing some of the company’s older titles, you might be interested to learn that they will be bringing back some older titles.

This is according to Square Enix who in their annual report stated their plans to remake some older titles for today’s modern devices. The company calls it “revitalizing existing IPs” which in all honesty basically sounds like they want to remake some of their older games and re-release them into the market.

According to the company, “For example, we will take an IP developed for earlier generations of game consoles and recreate it for the latest consoles, while also proactively developing versions for play on smart devices. In addition, we will also explore possibilities involving VR (virtual reality) and other new platforms. We want our longtime fans to relish reliving past experiences with a freshness that only the latest in technology can provide, while at the same time have new customers enjoy the IP as though it were brand new.”

Square Enix’s decision to remake older titles seems to be a complete opposite direction of EA, who had recently stated that they had no interest in creating HD remakes of existing and older IPs. However this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as reintroducing older franchises to newer audiences is a great way to gain new fans.
