xboxonecontrOne of the features of Microsoft’s Xbox One Elite wireless controller is the ability for users to remap the buttons on the device. Unfortunately for that privilege, it will set users back $150 which is admittedly a bit pricey just for a controller. However if you’d rather not spend that money, you’re in luck.

Recently Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra tweeted that the regular Xbox One controller will soon be able to have its buttons remapped as well. This is in response to a question from a gamer who asked why the feature was not present on the regular controller, in which Ybarra replied by saying, “It’s coming for all controllers soon.”

We’re not sure when exactly “soon” is, but it’s nice to know that eventually the feature will be available across Microsoft’s Xbox One controllers. That being said, this does not necessarily mean that the Elite controller has been rendered obsolete. Apart from configurable buttons, the Elite controller is almost modular in design.

Its components can be swapped in and out depending on your preference or the game that you are playing, so if that feature along with button remapping is something you’re interested in, then the Elite controller could be worth looking at. However if you’d rather just have button remapping, you can stick with the regular controller and just wait for the update.
