xiaomi mi 4cAs it stands, Xiaomi sells its products largely in China and the Asian region. While the company does have a store in the US, the store does not sell the company’s main products which are smartphones, but that could be changing soon. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Xiaomi’s president Bin Lin reiterated the company’s plans to come to the US.

While Lin did not mention any specific dates, he did state that the company is still considering making a move into the US market. Like we said, the company has been primarily operating in Asia and over in India, they also seem to be doing pretty well. According to Lin, “India is doing well. Our model works quite well in countries where e-commerce is growing very fast.”

This isn’t the first time we have heard of Xiaomi’s plans to enter the US market. Earlier this year Xiaomi exec Hugo Barra stated that the company had plans but those plans weren’t expected to come into fruition anytime soon. Some of the reasons are because it is a pretty huge move to come to the US, not to mention the localizing, branding, and operations which will be a lot of work.

There is also the issue of patents in which Xiaomi wants to cover their bases by trying to build up their patent portfolio in the US. According to Barra, he expects that the company is still about a year away from being ready, but for now it’s good to know that the company has not given up their plans just yet.
