android-6.0-marshmallowAndroid and iOS are currently two of the largest mobile platforms at the moment, but it seems that try as they might, Apple is still finding it difficult to surpass Android, at least as far as the US market is concerned. According to the latest numbers released by comScore (via Pocketnow), it seems that for Q3 2015, Android actually managed to pull ahead of Apple.

Based on the figures, Android is currently commanding 52.3% of the US market, an increase from the previous quarter in which they commanded 51.6%. As for iOS, it seems that Apple’s mobile platform dropped in market share to 43.6%, down from the previous quarter where it was sitting at 44.1%. However it is a 0.5% drop which we guess isn’t too bad.

As for the other platforms, we guess there just isn’t as much space left. Microsoft’s mobile platform managed to maintain a 2.9% share, along with BlackBerry and Symbian who are both at 1.2% and 0.1% respectively. Interestingly enough comScore did not take Tizen into account, which last we heard actually overtook BlackBerry to become the fourth largest mobile operating system.

Will this trend continue in which we will see iOS slowly give up more market share to Android? We guess we’ll just have to wait for the next quarter to find out. In the meantime, what do you guys think the numbers will look like for Q4?
