Apple’s new music streaming service, aptly called Apple Music, arrived on iOS a couple of months back. The company had confirmed back when this service was announced that it would eventually make its way to Android as well, making it the first user-centric app that Apple has ever created for the rival platform. After months of wait Android users can now try Apple’s service as Apple Music for Android is arriving today.
The beta version of Apple Music for Android launches today in all countries where the iOS app is available in right now except China, the company says that the beta version will arrive for the People’s Republic “very soon.”
Apple Music for Android isn’t that different from its iOS counterpart, new subscribers get the same three month free trial and subscription packages are the same. You must have Android 4.3 or higher to run this app on your handset. It works with For You, New, Radio and Beats 1, Connect and My Music.
If a user has another device with Apple Music and have their whole music library in the cloud they can access it via the Android app. Those who have purchased music from iTunes and use the same Apple ID for the app on Android, they will be able to access those purchases on the app as well.
The beta version is missing a few features, music videos are not yet available, and so are family plans. Those who have signed up for a family plan can log in with an authorized Apple ID to gain access. As far as the design is concerned the app looks quite like what you would expect an Android app to look like, it’s going to be a familiar experience for Android users, and that’s really what Apple was shooting for here.
Apple Music for Android beta will be available for download via the Google Play Store later today.
