ipad pro smart keyboardWith the release of the iPad Pro along with its accessories which basically seems to transform the tablet into a pseudo-laptop of sorts, one has to wonder what does this mean for the future of MacBooks? After all Tim Cook believes that the device could be a PC replacement, so does that mean that down the line we can expect some kind of hybrid?

For those who are fans of the Windows 8/Windows 10 hybrid devices that have been released in today’s market and are hoping that Apple will head down that path, you might be disappointed to learn that the Cupertino company has no plans of doing so. Speaking to Independent.ie, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook denied that such a device would be created.

According to Cook, “We feel strongly that customers are not really looking for a converged Mac and iPad. Because what that would wind up doing, or what we’re worried would happen, is that neither experience would be as good as the customer wants. So we want to make the best tablet in the world and the best Mac in the world. And putting those two together would not achieve either. You’d begin to compromise in different ways.”

This pretty much reaffirms what Cook had said in September in which he claimed that OS X and iOS would not be merging anytime soon (if at all). That being said, never say never. Apple has said things in the past that they would never do, only to go ahead and do it a few years later, but at least for the foreseeable future, don’t expect to see any MacBook/iPad hybrids announcements.
