By now many PC users should be familiar with AVG. For those who aren’t, the company is an anti-virus software company that offers free protection for PC users (along with paid protection with more features). However it looks like AVG will be expanding its offerings and entering into an entirely different market with the Chime.

What is Chime, you ask? At its core, Chime is a wireless router for your home or office, and it can even be linked up to other Chimes which will then be able to blanket your entire home or office which might be useful if there are many dead zones. This is thanks to the Mesh WiFi system that you can find in places like malls and airports.

So what sets the Chime apart from the competition? For starters it will rely on AVG’s experience in the security sector by integrating the router with VPN and Tor, thus allowing you to surf the web with relative anonymity. It also comes with AVG AntiVirus Free to help protect you from viruses and malware that you might encounter while surfing the web.

That being said, AVG hasn’t exactly enjoyed good press recently. A couple of months ago, the company announced an updated privacy policy that did not sit well with its users, but if you’re not too fussed about that, then perhaps Chime is an Indiegogo project worth funding, so head on over to its page for the details.
