brussels_tweetIn case you haven’t followed the latest news, earlier the city of Brussels was placed on the highest level of terror alert following very credible and real threats. Police were placed all over the city which also means that for active Twitter users, this was something to tweet about which is what most people would do.

However in a bid to prevent the terror suspects from learning the movement of the police officers, the Belgian police tweeted out a plea to its citizens to not tweet out any information regarding their movements and operations online. Did that stop the people of Brussels? Nope, but instead what they did was show their solidarity by flooding Twitter with cat pics.

The idea behind this is that by hashtagging #BrusselsLockdown and posting a ton of cat pics, they are hoping that these pics will drown out and possibly hide tweets that gives away the movements of the police. Despite the rather tense situation, it seems that the good folks of Brussels have not lost their sense of humor as some of the photos posted are pretty hilarious.

So far the police have managed to arrest 16 people across the country and the authorities even tweeted out a thanks to its citizens for helping to cooperate with their operations.
