HBO’s standalone streaming service was launched earlier this year and initially the service was limited to Apple’s devices. The cable giant has gradually expanded it to other platforms, Android included, but it has taken a considerable amount of time to bring official support for the Android TV platform. There’s no reason to keep waiting now though as HBO Now support is finally here for Android TV.

It’s not like it wasn’t possible to get HBO Now on an Android TV prior to this, the app actually got compatibility in October and it was possible to sideload the application on an Android TV device, but then again that process is not for everyone even though it’s really not that hard.

Now that official support has arrived there is no need for workarounds. Simply fire up the Play Store on the Android TV device and download the HBO Now app as you would any other application. It will run without any hiccups.

HBO Now provides access to streaming of the linear channel as well as the entire catalog of video-on-demand content. Once the free trial ends for new subscribers they’re required to pay $15 per month for the service, though it has been rumored that HBO is considering cheaper subscription plans.
