kotatsuAs the mercury drops this winter season for many of us who happen to live in the northern hemisphere, here we are making preparations to ensure that our homes will be adequately equipped to deal with the coming cold. Heating a home, however, can prove to be rather expensive, so creative ways are more than welcome. The Japanese are a creative lot, where the use of a kotatsu will allow it to function as a heater as well as a piece of furniture in the living room, now how about that? The kotatsu will sport a special heater underneath it, and you can use it as a low table, futon, reclining couch and a comforter, it does not matter.

Not only that, the kotatsu does go some way in helping lower one’s heating bills, since sitting by its side is one of the ways where whole families gather in order to remain warm during winter. This goes some way in saving power, as the whole house does not need to be heated, and your pockets will be heavier at the end of the month, too. If only such culture or furniture can be translated over to more modern Western homes. Definitely worth checking out if you would want something different to spruce up your home this winter.
