It is no secret that we are very attached to our phones, and understandably so. After all the bulk of our digital lives are intertwined with our smartphone, like social media, work emails, personal emails, shopping, digital entertainment like music, videos, games, and so on. Now the question is, if you were told you’re not allowed to attend to your phone whenever you hear a notification come in, do you think you could do it? And how long do you think you could hold off?

In an experiment conducted by Motorola, the company basically put several users through a test where they are required to place both hands inside sensors, which are fake by the way, and placing their phone between them. The idea here is to see if they are able to resist the urge to attend to their phone when messages or phone calls are received, thus demonstrating exactly how addicted we are to our mobile devices.

However the trick here is that the participants were told to just place their hands inside of the “sensors”. They were then told to wait as the machines were being calibrated, and during that time they were being sent messages. Of course this experiment also served as a way for Motorola to promote their phone, and in this case the Moto X Pure Edition.

The video demonstrated how the phone could read out your notifications, thus removing the need for you to actually touch the device. However despite it being a blatant promotion, it does demonstrate how attached we truly are to our smart devices, wouldn’t you agree?
