Earlier this week Microsoft released a major update for the Xbox One which brings a whole new dashboard experience to the console powered by Windows 10. It also adds backwards compatibility, removes support for Kinect gestures for navigation, aside from making tweaks to improve stability and performance. The next major Xbox One update won’t be coming too soon though, it’s currently scheduled for February 2016, according to Microsoft’s director of program management Mike Ybarra.

Ybarra gave this estimate on the latest estimate of Microsoft’s Larry Hryb’s podcast, Hyrb is commonly known in the community as Major Nelson.

He said that the development team is already working on putting together the next monthly update which will be released after the holiday season, Ybarra revealed that the team had a meeting about its feature set on the same day that the new Xbox One experience was released.

He did say that Xbox One owners shouldn’t expect a major software update in December and January, that’s because Microsoft is shooting for stability during the holiday season, with lots of new people buying consoles Ybarra says that it’s probably not the best time to be sending out substantial new features.

February is therefore the next possible month after the holiday season ends when the team can send out a major update and that’s what they have decided as yet, there’s always room for change, but for now it appears that we shouldn’t expect any major updates for the Xbox One over the next few months.
