The idea of smart mirrors isn’t new, and the idea that they could be applied to fitting rooms isn’t new either, although it does seem that the idea has yet to become more mainstream. We suppose the cost of setting up such a fitting room with smart mirrors might be more work and hassle than retailers would like.

However the good news is that if you’ve always been curious about what a smart fitting room might be like, Ralph Lauren’s Polo flagship store on Fifth Avenue might be worth checking out. The store will be the first location to feature Oak Labs’ Fitting Room. This is a smart fitting room and will no doubt change the way we shop in the future, if it catches on.

So how does this work? Basically the room comes with a smart mirror that is also a touchscreen. Users can select the type of lighting so that they can see how their outfit might look like in the club or under normal light. Thanks to the RFID tags on the clothes, the fitting room can also keep track of how many items you brought in, and what items you brought in.

From there it can recommend pairings and if it doesn’t fit, you can browse the store’s catalogue and choose different sizes or colors and have a store assistant bring it to you. It’s a great idea but like we said, it might be costly to implement on a larger scale, but if you are curious, you know where you have to go to check it out.
