shift-5-plusEver since the idea of a modular smartphone was introduced and with Google showing a lot of interest in developing one, we have seen several new modular smartphones making their way in the market. In fact just recently a smartphone called the PuzzlePhone was announced, but it looks like we have another contender.

Dubbed the Shift5+, this is a modular smartphone from Germany that can run on either Android or Windows 10 Mobile. Note that this does not mean that the phone can dual-boot both operating systems, but rather it will support either platform which users have to choose when checking it out.

In terms of modularity, it seems that Project Ara is still the most flexible. The details of the Shift5+ are a bit scarce but some of the swappable components of the phone include its battery, display, internal memory, and “other important components” in the event that it needs replacing or repairing.

The specs of the device have yet to be confirmed and are expected to be finalized by December which is when pre-orders will open. However the plan is to feature either a quad or octa-core CPU, at least 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, a 5-inch display, a 13MP/5MP camera combo, and a removable battery between 2,500-3,000mAh. If this is of interest to you, the Shift5+ is only expected to be released in Q3 2016, so it looks like customers will have to wait.
