It has been announced today that J.J. Abrams is working on a new video game project that’s actually a collaboration between this director and Chair Entertainment, a subsidiary of Epic Games. They haven’t revealed much about the project just yet aside from saying that it’s going to be released for mobile devices and Windows PC at some point next year.

This is the first video game project of J.J. Abrams that has been officially announced, he did say back in February 2013 that he was working with Valve on a similar project, almost three years have passed since then and neither Abrams nor Valve has said anything about that project.

Bad Robot, Abrams’ production company, will collaborate with Chair Entertainment on this title. Abrams was very much willing to team up with Chair on this project, “I’m such a fan of what Chair has made and allowed me and my kids to play,” he said, while adding that Bad Robot has been wanting to get into the game industry for some time now and that the mutual appreciation between the two companies has made them a good fit for one another.

Abrams says that the early discussions of Spyjinx were very ambitious, without revealing much about the nature of this game, but he does promises to share more about it next year. As per the Spyjinx website the title will be aided by Unreal Engine 4 and offer players a “unique mix of action strategy gameplay, dynamic world building and RPG character development.”

Spyjinx closed beta is scheduled for 2016 as well, interested folks can register right now to be notified when the closed beta is due to arrive.
