It’s not always easy for small or temporary businesses like kiosks to accept chip cards and mobile payment services because they don’t necessarily have the required hardware available. It can cost quite a bit to procure terminals for processing card and app-based payments, and that’s what Square is making much easier today with its new reader. The company’s new reader lets small businesses accept chip cards and Apple Pay.

100 local business owners across the United States are now accepting chip cards and Apple Pay by using Square’s new reader, it enables them to provide their customers with a fast and simple payment experience.

The first group of businesses that has received access to this new reader include Philz Coffee in San Francisco, Cafe Grumpy in New York City, Honey Butter Fried Chicken in Chicago and many others.

Other sellers are located in cities including Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.

The new Square Reader can now be purchased for $49, just connect it to a Square Stand or mobile device and pair it with Square’s free point-of-sale app. Customers only have to hold their device near the reader or insert their chip card to make a payment. The new Square reader supports both Apple Pay and Android Pay.
