renewable_energyCompanies like Apple have been making steps towards ensuring that their operations are powered by renewable energy, but Apple is just one company. There are millions of companies and billions of people, which means that everyone needs to do their part if we are hoping for a future that does not look like it came out of a Mad Max movie.

The good news is that if you wanted a future in which the world is fully powered by renewable energy, it seems that come 2050 that future may very well come true. This is according to studies conducted by MIT, the Atmosphere/Energy Program at Stanford University, and the University of California.

According to the study by Stanford and UC, what they did was analyze the energy roadmaps for 139 countries to calculate how much energy they would each need. They then compared that energy to potential outputs from renewable sources like wind, solar, and hydro and found that these sources could provide the majority of their energy needs.

Speaking to FastCoExist, Mark Z. Jacobson, director of the Atmosphere/Energy Program said, “People who are trying to prevent this change would argue that it’s too expensive, or there’s just not enough power, or they try to say that it’s unreliable, that it will take too much land area or resources. What this shows is that all these claims are mythical.” To learn more, head on over to the 100% Renewable Energy’s website for the details.
