Most of us are waiting to see what T-Mobile’s Uncarrier X announcement is all about, while there have been rumors of something truly amazing, we’ll have to wait until November 10th to find out for sure. The carrier isn’t sitting idle till then, today it announced what’s essentially a mini-LTE tower for your home or business, which will plug the LTE signal gaps to ensure great coverage where the carrier’s LTE network is available.

Magenta calls it the world’s first femto (small cell) that’s compatible with both 3G and 4G as well as VoLTE available from a U.S. carrier, the device itself is called T-Mobile 4G LTE CellSpot.

It basically functions like a normal tower except that it’s very small and can be plugged into a wall outlet, T-Mobile says that the CellSpot will provide up to 3,000 feet of “strong, reliable full-bars LTE coverage” even in places where no wireless signal can reach.

Just plug it in, connect it to the internet and you’re good to go. CellSpot can support up to 16 calls simultaneously and works with any 3G, 4G and LTE device available from T-Mobile.

It’s an easy way to ensure great coverage at home or at a small business without having to spend a great deal of money, eligible customers on Magenta’s Simple Choice plan can get the LTE CellSpot for free after they make a refundable $25 deposit. They can keep the device for free as long as they like provided that they remain on T-Mobile.
