The idea that you can use your smartphone to unlock your hotel room’s door isn’t new. It’s not particularly widespread yet but it exists. There are also hotel rooms that come with tablets that allows users to control its settings, like the temperature of its air-conditioning, lights, DND sign, Housekeeping, and so on.

However it seems that over in Turkey, the TUI Group is trialing a new wearable called the TUI Smartband that basically lets you control your hotel experience all from your wrist. The band features built-in NFC technology so basically you can pay for your purchases at the hotel, like food or equipment rental, via the band.

It also acts as your hotel room’s key, which we guess is a given. The band is also connected to your hotel room and in a bid to create more sustainable tourism, TUI Group has linked it so that when you leave your room, the lights and air-conditioning will turn off, thus helping them save electricity in the process.

That being said, the TUI Smartband isn’t the first of its kind. Currently in Walt Disney World in Florida, a similar device called the MagicBand is being used where it can unlock your room’s door and pay for merchandise.
