bwFancy getting paid to walk? Yes, that is certainly a novel idea never mind the fact that the currency in which you will get paid in would be in Bitwalking dollars. Bitwalking will be launched first in four nations, where Japan is one of them. Being a digital crypto-currency that is generated by human movement, you do not need to “mine” this currency, but rather, make use of your two legs. An app on your smartphone will count and verify the number of steps that you take, where approximately 5 miles’ worth of walking will result in 1 BW$ thereabouts.

How will you be able to spend Bitwalking dollars? Well, you can do so in an online store, or take the more conventional route and trade them for cash. Nissan Bahar and Franky Imbesi are the founders for this project, and have so far attracted over $10m of initial funding from different investors (although Japanese investors make up the bulk of it) so that the currency can be launched, and an appropriate bank created.

Murata of Japan are also developing a wearable wristband which will offer an alternative when it comes to toting a smartphone around in order to depict the amount of BW$ that the wearer has earned along the way. This is certainly a novel idea when it comes to maximizing the use of fitness trackers, don’t you think so? Hopefully if this takes off, one won’t get mugged for Bitwalking.
