Chinese woman in internet cafeWhen someone up and disappears on you for 10 years, we can only assume the worst, which is that they are dead. However it seems that wasn’t the case for Xiao Yun in China. According to reports from the country, the 24-year old has been reported as missing for the past 10 years, only be to be found again living at an internet cafe in China.

Back when she was 14, Xiao Yun had a heated argument with her mom that led to her running away from home. Her story is that she spent her time in internet cafes while being brought up by her grandparents, who for some reason did not bother notifying her parents that she was alive and well.

She relied mostly on the handouts from fellow cafe patrons as well as working the occasional job of being a cashier to help earn some money. It was only when police were conducting routine checks that Xiao Yun was caught using a fake ID, and it was only during questioning that she revealed her story.

She had initially refused to reunite with her family but she later gave in. According to her mother, the family had kept the same phone number all these years in hope that she would eventually call home. She adds, “I have a stubborn personality and a short temper, so I used to scold her. But it’s already been 10 years and now she’s an adult. I will never scold her again.” Talk about a happily ever after!
