amd_radeon_r9_furyIf you’re looking to build a new gaming PC and want to buy a new GPU for it, maybe you’ll want to hold off on that purchase until 2016. Why is that? According to a recent announcement AMD made, it seems that the company has revealed some changes they will be making to their GPU lineup in 2016.

These are some pretty big changes that gamers and professionals might be interested in. According to AMD, they state that in 2016 their GPUs will support both the latest HDMI and DisplayPort standards, which right now is HDMI 2.0a and DisplayPort 1.3. So if you’re a professional or hardcore gamer that will benefit from this support, like we said maybe you’ll want to hold off on your purchase for now.

So what’s the big deal, you ask? As it stands, DisplayPort 1.2’s max resolution and refresh rate is at 3840×2160 at 60Hz, anything higher and you’ll have to lower your resolution to 1080/1440p. With DisplayPort 1.3, this has been changed to 7680×4320 at 60Hz, and whether or not you’ll actually need to go that high is a different story, but at least the option is there.

For the average user this is probably not a big deal and many of them may not care or be able to perceive the differences, but like we said hardcore gamers and professionals in the photo editing, video editing, or graphics design business might care about it, but either way come 2016 you guys can look forward to support as far as AMD’s GPUs are concerned.
