iphone smart caseIf you wanted a battery case for your iPhone, you’d probably have to turn to third-party companies like Mophie and Belkin, both of whom have been battery cases for iPhones for quite a while now. Official cases from Apple were only the regular silicon and leather cases, at least until today.

In what can only be described as a surprising move, Apple has officially taken the wraps off the Smart Battery Case. This is a battery case designed for the iPhone in mind and it is an official Apple product. So if you were a bit paranoid about battery cases from third-party manufacturers, hopefully this will ease your concerns.

Unfortunately the case is only compatible with the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6, so if you own the larger iPhone 6 Plus or 6s Plus, you’d be out of luck, at least for now. We’re not sure if Apple will eventually create one for their larger phones, but we suppose it would not really be a stretch to imagine that they will eventually.

The cases are available in charcoal gray or white and is priced at $99. It is made from silicone with a microfiber lining and according to Apple, will increase talk time by as much as 25 hours, 18 extra hours with LTE, and video playback by up to 20 hours. We have to admit we can’t say we’re digging the bump on the back of the case, but if you think that this is the case for you, head on over to Apple’s website to place an order.
