audeze lightning headphonesLast year it was rumored that Apple could soon expand its MFi program to include headphones, or to be more specific, headphones that could connect to iOS device’s Lightning port. We weren’t disappointed as companies such as Philips soon launched headphones that did indeed arrive with Lightning cables.

That being said if you are after a bit more variety, you might be interested to learn that Apple has recently launched the Audeze EL-8 Titanium headphones in its online store. These are $800 headphones which means that it will actually cost more than Apple’s iPhones and iPad (depending on the configuration, but you get what we mean).

These headphones will feature a Lightning connector and will also feature a DAC built into the cable itself. It also comes with a headphone amplifier so if you consider yourself a bit of an audiophile, then perhaps these might be the headphones for you. The headphones also feature planar magnetic drivers which supposedly offer up better sound quality, and an aluminum construction whose design is actually by BMW’s DesignWorks.

However given its price, we suppose only audiophiles or customers rich enough might consider them. However the fact that we are looking at more headphones with Lightning connectors certainly seems to be feeding the speculation that future iPhones might drop the headphone jack in favor of Lightning ports instead.
