bmw nissan evUntil the day where charging stations are as easily available and can recharge electric cars in as much time as it would take to fill up a tank of gas, range anxiety will always be something that electric car owners will have to worry about. Granted the range of electric vehicles has increased over the years, but the fact that it still takes a while to fully recharge a car is still seen as a disadvantage.

That being said in hopes to ease range anxiety, both BMW and Nissan have announced that they will begin rolling out dual-plug EV chargers across the US. They expect that there will be  120 dual-format fast chargers (both CHAdeMO and CCS) across 19 US states, with the expectation that these chargers being powerful and fast enough to recharge most EVs to 80% in 30 minutes.

This is still substantially slower compared to filling up your gas tank, but if you don’t have anywhere else to be, just plug in your car, go grab some lunch or a coffee, and you should be good enough to be on your way. According to Cliff Fietzek, Manager Connected eMobility, BMW of North America,  “Together with Nissan, we are focused on facilitating longer distance travel so that even more drivers will choose to experience the convenience of e-mobility for themselves.”

Nissan’s director of Electric Vehicle Sales and Marketing Andrew Speaker adds, “By working with BMW to increase the number of available public quick-chargers, we are able to further enhance range confidence among EV drivers across the country.” Some of the charging stations should be already be installed so to find them, launch either BMW or Nissan’s mobile app to locate them.
