You can buy a drone at pretty much any price point right now but if you’re going for respected brands then look no further than DJI. The Chinese company has made quite a name for itself in the drone business and it constantly keeps improving its products by adding new features. The latest feature to arrive for DJI drones is thermal imaging, expanding the scope of usage of these drones quite substantially.

The company has already released a specialized drone, the agricultural drone, to make it much easier for farmers to spray crops. Now it has teamed up with FLIR Systems to develop Zenmuse XT, a new camera that brings thermal imaging functionality to the Matrice and Inspire One drones.

There are lots of scenarios in which thermal imaging drones will come in handy, for example firefighters can use it to locate the source of a blaze inside of a structure. It can also be used to aid bloodhounds during a search and rescue operation and may even be used to check on the health of crops.

The company has not yet confirmed how much this camera is going to cost but it’s going to release it at some point in 2016. It will use the same gimbal mount that’s standard on the Inspire One and Matrice drones, allowing users to easily interchange it with other cameras for the drones.
