drone-paints-skyCan you feel the Christmas spirit that is happening all around? A season of goodwill and kindness, with festive cheer to be shown and spread all around the world. Well, there are many ways to bring about cheer to a person’s life, and art is one of the many mediums in which it can deliver, carving a smile on somebody else’s face. While drones have received their share of bad press in recent days, here is something that might just lift your spirit. Apparently, drones do get artistic as well (including blocking out the strategic bits of nude ballet dancers), as they fly around, captured in long exposure shots to function as a festive, twilight paintbrush.

The entire “paintbrush show” was filmed by Ascending Technologies, where it touts itself to be the very first drone painting in the world that makes use of long exposure cameras. The company, hailing from Germany, makes use of mapping software and a color-changing LED in order to get the job done, as the drone sketches out a string of glowing shapes. I suppose it would not be too far down the road before someone proposes using a similar method, although that would certainly entail a fair amount of programming.
