facebook-new-feature

It’s not uncommon for us to have friends in our Facebook network that aren’t really close to us and we’re not likely to interact with them on a regular basis. No matter how many friends you have, updates from them have to find their place in your News Feed, which is already cluttered with posts from Pages or groups that you have liked, and of course there are ads that take up quite a bit of space. Facebook is now testing a new feature which will alert you to friends with new posts, so that their updates don’t get lost in your News Feed.

Even though Facebook has made several changes to the way News Feed prioritizes content over the past year it’s still far from perfect, and it’s not that hard to find that updates from friends don’t really figure in the News Feed as much as you might want them to.

A new Facebook feature has been spotted which is being tested right now, on the Web profile to the left hand side where nine random friends are featured, blue dots are being shown under the names of friends that have new posts. The accompanying text notifies you how many new posts from that particular friend you have missed.

Some might find it unsettling to think that Facebook is logging the last time they visited a friend’s page so that they can later be notified of all the posts from that friend that they have missed. Nevertheless this feature can prove to be useful particularly for celebrity or verified accounts.

As for if and when this feature will be rolled out for everybody, well that can’t really be said for sure, since Facebook has a habit of testing new features without confirming whether or not they will be released for all users.
