fb postsFrom time to time your Facebook News Feed will show you posts that are trending/viral. These kind of posts might be about a funny video, breaking news, and so on. For the most part these posts tend to be interesting, but from time to time there are posts such as hoaxes that accidentally become viral because of people spreading them without knowing about it.

This is something Facebook wants to cut down and to do that, the social network has started to use surveys to help users better identify posts that they want to see, and posts that they’d rather not see, as you can see in the screenshot above. According to Facebook, “As part of our ongoing effort to improve News Feed, we ask thousands of people every day to rate their experience and tell us how we can improve what they see when they check Facebook.”

Like we said, one of the reasons Facebook wants to do this is because they’d rather push hoax posts to the bottom rather than at the top where they are highly visible. “With the hoaxes example, if the majority of people taking the survey say they would rather see another story in their feed than the viral hoax story, then we’ll infer the story might not be as interesting, and show the viral story lower down in people’s feeds in the future.”

Now we know that sometimes you guys might not be a fan of taking surveys, but if you’d rather have your Facebook News Feed show you posts that you actually want to see, perhaps taking a minute or two to help Facebook understand the different types of posts will go a long way in cleaning up your News Feed.
