Ford is certainly raking up its karma points today, having announced a new Ford Sync update that will deliver Siri Eyes Free support – hitting over five million cars in the process, and this particular upgrade is rather far reaching as it will be able to play nice with vehicles that date all the way back to the 2011 model year. Of course, many must have been waiting for this update ever since Ford first revealed the Sync version 3.8 update with Siri Eyes Free compatibility a couple of months back, although the update was not released until now.

The presence of Siri Eyes Free would allow owners of Sync-equipped cars to make use of in-car microphones as well as speakers, paving the way for easy and seamless interaction with Siri on a connected iPhone. Ford’s setup would see a dedicated handsfree button mounted on the steering wheel, where it would be pretty much boast of a similar function as the iPhone’s home button, where all the driver needs to do is to press it and hold in order to invoke Siri.

Among the available functions include the ability to make phone calls, obtaining directions via Apple Maps, sending and receiving text messages, setting reminders and alarms, enjoy some music playback, and to search for information concerning points of interest, among others.
