insidecodeSay maybe 20 years ago, the idea of programming seemed to be an activity that should be left largely to the guys, and that even when growing up, children weren’t really encouraged to pick up computer programming skills. However fast forward to today, it is a completely different landscape where children, both boys and girls, are encouraged to pick up some programming skills.

In fact we have seen toys and apps developed to help children understand the concept. There has even been instances in which popular characters, like Doctor Who have been used to help educate kids on coding. This is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Google’s latest efforts have seen them turn to Pixar’s Inside Out to teach children how to program.

This is part of Google’s Made With Code program (an initiative meant to encourage women to explore the field of computer science) and basically there are several coding tutorial challenges that will allow children to animate scenes from Inside Out. This will see children drag and drop code snippets to solve problems. However these tutorials are kind of short with only three levels being offered.

However we can only assume that this is to help entice children to explore programming even further. So if you are a parent looking to get your children interested in learning a new skill set, then head on over to Made With Code’s website for the details.
