gracenote dynamic eqDifferent genres of music have different equalizer settings that will bring out the best in the song/genre. For example electronic dance music typically focuses on the bass, so by creating a bass-heavy EQ, you can really feel and hear the punch of the bass. Some other songs might require more mids, and some might require more treble.

However it wouldn’t be practical to adjust your EQ for every song and for the most part, not all of us are that sensitive to these subtle changes. But if you think you are, Gracenote has announced its new Dynamic EQ technology that they will be bringing to car stereos. As the name suggests, this basically changes the EQ for every song that is played.

According to the description, “If you are jamming to Tupac or Biggie, Gracenote Dynamic EQ will recognize the track and specific Hip Hop attributes for the song and adjust the EQ settings by pumping up the bass and pulling back the treble. By contrast, a song by Taylor Swift will automatically trigger a very different set of EQ settings based on the Pop Vocal nature of the song boosting the midrange where the vocals are present and high-end to add clarity and sparkle.”

This means that while you drive, each song will be tuned to bring out the best in it. Now whether you can actually tell or not is a different story, but it’s nice to know that it’s there. No word on which cars are expected to receive the upgrade, but Gracenote’s tech already exists in Tesla, Ford, and GM cars just to name a few.
