It had been rumored over the past couple of weeks that Rockstar might be readying a port of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for PlayStation 3. Rockstar Games today quietly released GTA: San Andreas for PlayStation 3 today, the port is now readily available for download and it replaces the PS2 Classics version of this game which was previously available.

GTA: San Andreas for PlayStation 3 weighs in at just north of 2GB, though it’s unclear at this point in time whether this port is the same that Rockstar released for the Xbox 360 as a title with Games on Demand in October last year. That particular port provides better draw distance than the PlayStation 2 original and runs in 720p.

The PlayStation Network trophies list for this title does show that it’s similar to the achievements on Xbox 360 with one exception: the title’s platinum trophy on PS3 replaces the Trickster achievement on Xbox 360. To win this trophy players have to first complete 10 pimping missions.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was initially released on PlayStation 2 back in October 2004, and since then has been expanded to other platforms such as Windows PC, iOS and Android. The title is now available for the PlayStation 3 via digital download off the PlayStation Store for $14.99.
