htc_logoHTC might have hit some pretty high notes during the month of November where revenues are concerned, and this is mainly attributed to the HTC One A9, but this does not mean that everything else is fine and dandy where the company is concerned – not so in Germany as we discovered. The Taiwanese company was the loser in a recent legal battle over in Germany, where the fallout from that incident could hit the company’s pockets – hard. It seems that HTC will be banned from selling their smartphones through Deutsche Telekom AG some time later this month.

In the legal battle that HTC faced, they were sued concerning a patent infringement and subsequently lost. The Texas-based Acacia Research Group, a patent licensing company, was given an injunction against HTC smartphones which were sold via Deutsche Telekom (aka T-Mobile) in Germany. As for the infringed patent concerned, it treads on voice coding technology territory.

Taking into consideration that the ban will only happen later in December, this means that whoever wants to pick up a HTC handset via Deutsche Telekom can still do so now before the window of opportunity closes. HTC is no doubt working round the clock for a solution that will circumvent this sales ban if and where possible.
