htc-vive-03The HTC Vive virtual reality headset was announced earlier this year, but unfortunately in terms of availability, neither HTC nor Valve shared those details. However several months ago it was revealed that mass rollout would only begin in 2016, but when exactly in 2016? Early? Mid? Or maybe towards the end?

The good news is that you can stop wondering as HTC has confirmed when exactly the HTC Vive will be available. According to the company, they expect the headset to be made available to the masses in April 2016. “We will be starting the new year by making an additional 7,000 units available to developers, followed by commercial availability in April 2016. We are incredibly excited about the future and look forward to sharing more information as we move forward towards launch.”

However as HTC points out, the initial rollout will be for developers which is completely understandable. That being said while we do have a commercial release date to look forward to, HTC did not mention anything about the price of the headset either. As it stands it has been speculated that the headset would cost around $500, which is admittedly a bit pricey, but hopefully more details about the headset’s release will be shared soon at events like CES or MWC in 2016.
