The idea of modular smartphones aren’t new as we have seen in the past with devices like Project Ara. However since these devices aren’t exactly available to the public yet, would you be willing to settle for a modular smartphone case instead? If you are, you might be interested in a case called i-BLADES.

We have heard of modular cases in the past but for the most part like Logitech’s case+, so i-BLADES isn’t exactly the first of its kind. However what makes i-BLADES different is that you can choose to either add more battery to your phone or more storage, or even both as the blades are actually stackable, thanks to the use of magnets.

This means if you want more memory and more battery, that is certainly possible, although the risk is that you might end up with a phone that is a little too thick. The good news is that the developers behind the technology claim that the magnets won’t affect or interfere with your phone’s performance, so you can rest assured about that.

The case and the blades themselves are pretty nicely designed and look rather stylish. However they aren’t available for purchase just yet as they are currently on Indiegogo trying to raise funds, so if you think that the i-BLADES case has merits, head on over to Indiegogo and show them some support. In the meantime you can check out the video above to see the i-BLADES in action.
