xiaomi logoI am a firm believer that if anything can be measured, it can be improved upon. When it comes to quarterly earnings calls and reports, you can be sure that investors and onlookers alike are interested in just a few figures, and most of the time it would be whether there is any increase in profit (which will most probably result in higher dividends), and how sales are doing. Meizu, one of the upstart smartphone manufacturers from China, has revealed that they have managed to sell more than 20 million smartphones this year. While that might not seem to be an impressive figure when you compare it to the likes of what Apple and Samsung has done, we are still talking about a 350% increase compared to the previous year, where Meizu shifted a mere 4.4 million units in 2014.

With such a quantum leap in sales this year, it is only natural for everyone else to expect that Meizu will be hitting dizzier heights in the coming year. What is more surprising is the fact that Meizu intends to control the sales in the coming year, and are targeting the 25 million mark as their benchmark where sales are concerned.

Other smartphone vendors from China such as Huawei and Xiaomi have also made an announcement concerning their sales figures for the year – Huawei shipped 100 million units, while Xiaomi is tipped to hit the 73 million figure. Surely the Xiaomi Mi 5 has a role to play for the company in 2016.
