Microsoft’s Xiaoice software program with artificial intelligence is already being used to provide effective interactions on several of China’s most used platforms such as Weibo, JD.com, WeChat and many others. Xiaoice now has the distinction of being the first program to join a morning live TV program as a “trainee anchor,” where the AI is going to deliver the daily weather forecast.

Xiaoice made her debut on live TV in China earlier this week and it was a great access, she was introduced as a trainee anchor in the live program and then she provided the day’s weather forecast, as well as any real person, would do. Xiaoice also has the distinction of being the most human-like of any AI system, it scores 4.32 out of 5 on linguistic naturalness tests, humans have an average score of 4.76.

The AI delivers weather reports in her “unique artificial intelligent style of emotional comments” by relying upon smart cloud technologies and big data to analyze weather patterns and deliver reports accordingly, with balanced levels in terms of IQ and EQ.

Microsoft has also confirmed that it has a global strategic plan for this AI program and that various versions of Xiaoice for different regions including the United States are “well on the way.”
