Minecraft has always been available on a wide variety of platforms and ever since the company behind it was picked up by Microsoft, it even arrived on some of Redmond’s platforms that were not supported previously. Microsoft did say at the time of the deal that it would continue to bring Minecraft to platforms other than its own, it follows through on that promise by confirming Minecraft for Nintendo Wii U today.

It has been confirmed today that Minecraft is headed to the Nintendo Wii U, the title will be released on December 17th for $29.99, and from the looks of it Minecraft on Wii U really won’t be different than it is on other consoles like the Xbox.

There is one major difference though and that’s the support for off-TV play, this will enable Wii U owners to play Minecraft on the Gamepad even if the TV is not available at a particular time.

Minecraft will be accompanied on its journey to the Wii U by downloadable content that includes skin packs based on various characters and much more. Nintendo has also said that it’s working with Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, to create new content for Nintendo users that will be released at a future date.
