Netflix today announced that it has released a new version of its Windows 10 application to the Windows Store, the first major change in this app is the fact that it brings an entirely new user experience, one that’s powered by the Universal Windows Platform. For now the app is compatible with Windows 10 PC and tablets, there’s no support yet for Windows 10 Mobile, but Netflix and Microsoft say that support is going to be added soon.

Updated user experience features vertical scrolling through categories and horizontal scrolling through items in a category. Details view shows large cinematic artwork for a show or movie and includes episode information for the former, Details view for a movie features suggestions for related content.

Since this is a universal application it has a responsive layout which optimizes the size and placement of icons based on the device the app is being used on, like a tablet or PC. Affordances for both trackpad gesture or touch input are included in the app since many Windows 10 devices support both gesture and touch input.

The app has two features that are unique to the Windows platform, when the Netflix app tile is pinned to the Start menu, the Live Tile displays artwork that represents items that are in a subscriber’s Continue Watching list. Cortana integration is present as well so once a Netflix user has signed into the app they can issue one of the supported commands to Cortana, like asking the app to search for a particular title.

The new Netflix for Windows 10 app is now available for download via the Windows Store.
