shield tablet k1Last week the folks at NVIDIA teased some upcoming features that would be part of its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its Shield Tablet K1 device. However back then we weren’t sure when the update would be pushed out, but the good news is that it we didn’t have to wait too long because the update is now available for download.

According to NVIDIA, “Just in the time for the holidays, the ultimate tablet for gamers just got a little sweeter! On top of the blistering fast 192-core GPU, full HD 1080p display and dual front-facing speakers, SHIELD tablet K1 now offers the updated features and functionality of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, including, Now on Tap, adoptable storage, improved app permissions and App Standby.”

As expected the update will more or less bring the Android 6.0 Marshmallow features we’ve come to know and expect onto the Shield Tablet K1. It will also introduce several updates from NVIDIA themselves, like a new camera app with a new UI inspired by Google’s Material Design. They’ve also announced some kind of deal with Bethesda where the first 50,000 Shield Tablet K1 owners will get 5 free Lunchboxes in Fallout Shelter.

There is also a bunch of changes that they’ve made to the user interface, hopefully for the better. So if you have yet to update your tablet, you should probably go ahead and do that right now.
