Have you ever wanted to play on stage with a band but never got the nerve or opportunity to? Well suppose the animation effects offered up by the likes of Rock Band and Guitar Hero probably come pretty close, but it looks like things got kicked up one notch because according to an announcement by Oculus and Harmonix, it looks like Rock Band will be making its way onto the Oculus Rift.

According to the announcement made at The Game Awards, “Oculus and Harmonix are excited to announce that Rock Band is coming to the Rift in 2016! This brand new made-for-VR game inspired by the original Rock Band, from developer Harmonix, places you on a virtual stage living out the ultimate rock and roll fantasy, only for the Oculus Rift.” The announcement also seems to imply that the game will arrive on the PC.

Prior to this, Harmonix stated that Rock Band 4 would not be arriving on the PC due to piracy concerns. However from what we know about the Oculus Rift, it was designed for the PC so this announcement seems to confirm that at the very least, the VR version of Rock Band will be arriving on the PC (no word on how different it will be from Rock Band 4).

There is also no confirmation as to when the Oculus Rift will be released, but it is expected in the first quarter of 2016. Pricing is still a mystery at this point in time but hopefully we will have more details to look forward to as the date gets closer. In the meantime, how many of you guys are looking forward to playing Rock Band in virtual reality?
