samsung-EV-NX500_006_Front-Filp-Up_It has been a while since we heard or saw any new cameras from Samsung. In fact a rumor from last month suggested that Samsung would close its camera division, and all of this seemed to be supported by the fact that Samsung appeared to be pulling out of certain markets. There were even rumors that Samsung could sell its NX technology to Nikon.

However it seems that all those rumors could be false. According to a report from Korea Times (via Photo Rumors), it looks like Samsung has since come forward and denied all those claims. According to a Samsung spokesman, “It is true that we have not rolled out any new products since February, but we do not have any official plans to withdraw from the camera business. We still have employees working in the division.”

The report also suggests that Nikon isn’t interested in acquiring Samsung’s technology. According to their source, this is namely because Nikon’s technology is more advanced. “I doubt that Nikon is interested in acquiring Samsung’s camera technologies because the Japanese company already has advanced optical technologies. Should Nikon seek Samsung’s camera business, it could be for diversification of its product portfolio.”

In any case Samsung has teased that they will be making some kind of major camera announcement at CES 2016, so we guess we’ll have to wait and find out what the future holds for Samsung’s camera products.
