uber-rushSao Paulo, which is the biggest city over in the South American country of Brazil, would prefer to avoid having to ban the ridesharing service Uber, but rather take a percentage from Uber’s sales. How will the city go about doing this? Well, Sao Paulo would want to charge fees for Uber rides. This is certainly a strategy that is different from what other countries are doing, and the proposal includes to have ridesharing services like Uber purchasing government credits in order to pay for their distance traveled, and the rates will change depending on when and where the trip occurs.

Apart from that, app developers will also need to support a service which picks up multiple passengers who are going in a similar direction, and this is not too difficult in the face of options such as UberPool.

The folks over at Uber do seem to be agreeable to this proposal, where it thinks that the credit model is “innovative”, and to pay a small fee is a whole lot better than having to go through the hassle of trying to fight a total ban, as seen in Rio de Janeiro. We do wonder how Sao Paulo’s taxi drivers feel concerning this move.
